ASHLAND, KY – Chris Charles Chamis, of Ashland, KY, a former Portsmouth resident, passed away Monday, February 17, 2014, at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland. He was born in Portsmouth, a son of the late Charles and Barbara Levdka Katsovas Chamis.
Chris was a retired journalist with the Portsmouth Daily Times for 35 years and the Huntington Herald Dispatch. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Antiochian Orthodox Church, and he had attended Miami University in Oxford, OH.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Tripoulas Chamis, whom he married July 29, 1973, in Huntington, WV; two sons, Constantine Chris (Maria Despina) Chamis of Charlotte, NC, and Peter Angelo (Elizabeth Megan) Chamis of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Mary Lymberopoulos of Boulder, CO; a nephew, John Peter Lymberopoulos of Dallas, TX; a niece, Georgiann (Mark) Haering of Pueblo, CO; great nephews, Peter and Harry Lymberopoulos of Dallas, TX; and great nieces, Athena and Francesco Haering of Pueblo, CO.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. John Dixon officiating. A private burial service for family members will be held in Memorial Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 9:30 to 10 am.
