CHARLOTTE-SFC, Daniel Ross Porter, 56 of Charlotte, Michigan left this earth and arrived in heaven on August 1, 2014. Dan, the son of Ellsworth and JoAnn Porter was born July 31, 1958 in Portsmouth, Ohio. He graduated from Wheelersburg High School in 1976. He retired from the Army National guard after serving 25 years. His service included 2004 in Iraq during Operations Iraqi Freedom as well as time in Haiti during Operation Uphold Mountain Democracy. Daniel was an active member, volunteer and supporter of the American Legion Post in Charlotte. The Post named him Legionnaire of the year for 2014. Daniel served as President of the Grand Ledge Jaycees from 1988-1990.
Daniel is survived by his parents, Ellsworth and JoAnn Porter of Wheelersburg, a daughter, Michelle (Robbie) Ramey of Minford, two sons, Daniel Ross Green of Pierson, MI and John Porter of Charlotte, MI and one step-daughter Traci (Jon) Pettigrew of Potterville, MI. He is also survived by five brothers; John Porter of Berkley, CA, James Porter, David (Loretta) Porter Phillip Porter of Wheelersburg, and Kevin (Arlene Porter of Marysville, Ohio, two sisters, Bonnie (Bane) Sylvia of West Portsmouth, and Ruth (Randy) Murphy of Wheelersburg, in addition to, 8 grandchildren and 17 nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ted and Becky Porter, Howard Mahan and Dorothy Arledge Mahan McMeans.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 5 at the Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, Michigan from 2-6. The family requests donations are made to the Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte, Michigan.
