DAVID GLOCKNER

ASHLAND — David J. Glockner, 86, of Ashland, peacefully passed away at Trinity Station in Flatwoods, on Friday, July 18. He was born November 21, 1927, the son of the late Edward A. and Helen Folz Glockner of Portsmouth, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Glockner, son Joseph D. Glockner, great-granddaughter Katie Marie Glockner and son-in-law Frank Quinlan. Also preceding him in death were his brothers Lee Glockner, Edward Glockner, William Glockner and Donald Glockner.

Surviving are his children Marie (Randy) Prichard of Russell; James (LuAnn) Glockner, Edward (Rosie) Glockner, Paul (Lisa) Glockner, all of Ashland; Stephen (Charlotte) Glockner and Teri Abell of Lexington; Ann (Sam) Richardson and Colleen (Greg) Isaacs of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Margie Quinlan of Bixby, Okla.; David Glockner of Spring, Tex. and Kevin (Amy) Glockner of Ironton. He is also survived by 33 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren his sister, Janet Gallenstein, as well as a daughter-in-law, Pat Glockner.

Mr. Glockner was a Xavier University alumnus and a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church since 1968. After working at Glockner Chevrolet for more than a decade, he moved his family from Portsmouth, Ohio in 1968 to Ashland and purchased Ohio Valley Tobacco Co. He became a very successful business man and owned Ohio Valley Wholesale for more than 43 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army; past board member of the Tri-State Area Boy Scout Council; past board member of the Kentucky Independent College Board; past Chairman of the Board of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital; past member of the Board of Directors of Community Trust Bank; a founding member and past president of the Kentucky Candy and Tobacco Association; and a past board member of the Ashland Alliance. Mr. Glockner was generous in supporting many different charities.

A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at noon at Holy Family Church by Rev. John P. Noe. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday morning at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Holy Family Catholic Church, 900 Winchester Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
