Douglas Alan Ruth, 70, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014, at the James Cancer Hospital at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on November 13, 1943, he graduated from East High School, and then from Ohio University in 1966 then later received a master's degree, in Education, from Morehead State University.

Doug was a former math teach, employee of The Portsmouth Daily Times as well as an acclaimed coach. At one time even receiving a letter from The Ohio State House of Representatives praising his coaching skills. He loved sports and played and lettered in high school sports, went on to coach high school sports including his children's (Dawn and Alan) sports teams, and especially loved cheering on their high school and college games. He also had a passion for cars, particularly sports cars.

Son of the late Carl and Rita Ruth of Portsmouth, he is survived by two children, Douglas Alan (& ShaLee) Ruth II of Vancouver, Washington, and Dawn (& Darren) Caudill of Union, Kentucky; two sisters, Carita Lammers of Hilliard, Ohio, and Sue Hamblin of Portsmouth. Doug is also survived by six grandchildren (three grandsons and three granddaughters) and several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Mikey.

Funeral service will be held at Memorial Burial Park, Wheelersburg, Ohio, on Saturday, April 5, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow.
