ROBERT "MOON" MULLINS, 70

WEST PORTSMOUTH – Robert Lee "Moon" Mullins Sr., 70, of West Portsmouth, known as the "Voice of the West Senators", died Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at SOMC Hospice. He was born March 10, 1943, in Portsmouth to the late Charles Robert Mullins and Jane Louise Hall Mullins of Springfield. Bob was a graduate of Wheelersburg High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an insurance adjuster and appraiser for many years and was a former Ohio State Highway Patrolman. He was a member of the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion as well as the 40 and 8, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 762, the Portsmouth Eagles and Portsmouth Elks Lodge #154, Southern Ohio Arson Assn., Southern Ohio Claims Assn., Southern Ohio Arson Investigators Assn., Ohio State Board of Insurance Arbitration and Southern Ohio Claims Assn.

Bob or Moon as he was known, was the "Voice of the West Senators" for many years, announcing football, basketball, baseball and softball games. His favorite sayings were "in the wood pile" and "brought down by a host of Siders". Moon was inducted into the Tri State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002 and was recognized by the Ohio High School Athletic Assn. for over 20 years of service. Bob coached Little League Baseball and was Past President of the Portsmouth West Athletic Boosters. He was an avid boater and a lover of all sports.

Along with his father Bob was preceded in death by a sister Karen Craft.

Bob is survived by a son Robert L. Mullins Jr. of West Portsmouth, a granddaughter Madison Mullins, a sister Jane Ann Ford of London, OH, stepson Charles Brian Hannah of Portsmouth, and friend and mother of his child Vickii Walker of West Portsmouth, along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Rick Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with graveside military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
