Thurman "T.J." Harrison, 86, of McDermott, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born Nov. 8, 1927, in Portsmouth a son of the late Charles and Geneva Wilkes Harrison. He attended Rushtown Baptist Church, was a former U.S. Army veteran having served during WW II in the 2nd Armoured Division of the Tank Corp know as Hell On Wheels, and in the Korean War with the 9th Artilliary Infantry.He was a graduate of PHS and a member of the James Dickey Post 23, American Legion. He was a very well known Dulcimer Craftsman. He enjoyed hobbies such as fishing, hunting and camping. He was kind and generous to a fault and was loved by everyone who knew him. He was ready at anytime for a party, a music get together or going to and auction or flea market where he liked to collect Kemple Glassware. Thurman is survived by his wife, Bonnie Crace Harrison; a son, John (Linda) Harrison of Gallopolis; a daughter, Susan Harrison; step son-in-law, Gary Rice; two grandchildren, David and Emily Rice; step grandchildren, Michelle (Ray) Allard, Morgan Silvey and Alex Hickman, Ryan and Matthew Allard, Allie and Madison Rice; step great great grandchildren, Annalynn and Autumn Allard. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME IN NEW BOSTON with Pastor Fred Crabtree officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with graveside military rites by James Dickey Post 23, American Legion. Visitation will be Saturday noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
