WHEELERSBURG – Bobby Joe Bates, 76, of Wheelersburg, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at SOMC Hospice. Born June 13, 1937, in Pikeville, Kentucky, a son of the late Creed and Minnie Anderson Bates, he owned and operated Bob's Scrap Yard & Twin Boys Trading Post in Minford and was of the Christian faith.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Burke Bates; one son, Wyatt (Pat Pekar) Bates; one daughter, Cindy (Greg) Vetter; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Bates; and two sisters, Gladys Culver and Bernice Schultz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Hershel Bates, Creed Bates Jr. and Marvin Bates.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014, at House of Prayer Church in Beaver with Darrell Ishmael officiating. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
