SAMUEL ALBERT JACKSON

WHEELERSBURG — Samuel Albert Jackson, Jr., 95, of Wheelersburg, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at SOMC Hospice. Sam was born on June 8, 1919 in Ironton, Ohio, the son of the late Rev. Samuel Albert and Nannie McCoy Jackson. He was also preceded in death by a wife; Mary Jane Main Jackson on Feb. 14, 1990, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Sam was a member of the Coles Blvd Church of God in Portsmouth, he was a WWII Army Veteran, where he had received a Purple Heart, The French Medal of Honor, A Bronze Star and was present on the beaches of Normandy and Omaha Beach, he also had received the Knight of the Legion of Honor Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge and he was also a member of the Purple Heart Chapter 671. He was also a member of the Nauvoo Masonic Lodge 769, had received his 32nd degree, and was a Shriner. He also was a Kentucky Colonel and had retired after 39 years of service from the City of Portsmouth as an Operator at the Water Plant.

Samuel is survived by his wife, Edith Lowdenback Jackson of Wheelersburg; one daughter, Jerrie Ann Sutherland of Portsmouth; 2 step daughters, Brenda Sherrod and Anita (Jack) Gilbert both of Kentucky; one step son, Anthony (Melody) Lowdenback of South Carolina; 5 grandchildren, Kim (Pat) Proulx, Kathy (Jimmy) Arthur, Samuel, Michael (Jamie) and Jeremy Sutherland and numerous great grandchildren and gt.gt. grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Adkins-Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Pastor Chad Benner officiating. Graveside military rights will be given at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth by James Dickey American Legion Post 23. Friends may call at Adkins-Brant from 5 until 8 p.m. with a masonic service at 8p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
