PORTSMOUTH-Richard A. Orlett, 86, of Portsmouth, died Wednesday July 16, 2014 at SOMC Hospice.

He was born September 18, 1927 in Portsmouth to the late John and Madeline Simon Orlett.

"Dick" was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as an Electricians Mate and was an Electrical Engineer retiring from Martin-Marietta. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St Vincent-DePaul, and the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Orlett, two sisters, Dorothy Flanagan and Mary Agnes Cox, and brothers; James Orlett and Father Raymond Orlett.

Surviving are his three daughters; Catherine (Floyd) Barton of Wheelersburg, Deborah Gall of Heath, OH, and Angela Fields of Brunswick, GA, two brothers; Michael Orlett and Paul John Orlett, eight grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 AM Monday July 21, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Adam Streitenberger officiating.

Interment will follow at Scioto Burial Park in Rushtown with military graveside rites provided by the American Legion, James Dickey Post #23.

Friends may call at Melcher Funeral Home on Sunday July 20, 2014 from 5-8 PM. A Recitation of Rosary will be Sunday at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
