WHEELERSBURG — Sara Lee McLaughlin Harris, 64, of Wheelersburg, passed away on July 21, 2014 at SOMC Hospice after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born in Portsmouth on October 6, 1949 to Robert and Hazel (Yeagle) McLaughlin and was a 1967 graduate of Minford High School. She then attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio where she earned her B.A. in Art. For over 33 years Sara taught art at Portsmouth West Middle School where she was a popular and beloved teacher. She was a generous and dedicated teacher and was voted Ohio Art Teacher of the Year in 2011. She was a member of the Audubon Society, Humane Society, Ohio Educators Association, Art Educators Association, and exhibited her art locally. A lover of reading and all kinds of animals, she will be greatly missed by her friends, students, and colleagues.

Sara is survived by her husband, Paul; father, Robert McLaughlin of Sciotoville; brother, Tom McLaughlin (Texanna) of Sciotoville; sister, Sue Lacy of Frenchburg, KY; 2 nieces; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel McLaughlin.

A funeral procession will be leaving Wolfe-Nelson Funeral Home, in Sciotoville, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 to Memorial Park in Wheelersburg, where grave side services will be held. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 - 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. Online condolences may be left at Wolf Nelson Funeral Home is handeling the arrangements.
