PORTSMOUTH — Julia Ann Kitchen, of Portsmouth, Ohio ascended to her heavenly home on July 29, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 14, 1935 in Thacker, West Virginia to the late Robert and Stella Sergeant. She lived in Virginia and later moved to Ohio.

Julia was a loving person who made many devoted friends. She was loved by countless friends and family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; son John; daughter Leslye; and a special aunt, Helen McCoy.

Julia is survived by daughters, Johnna Grooms, Cindy (Joe) Louther, Theresa Varhola; granddaughters, Leslie Louther, Amber (William) Watts, Morgan and Michaela Grooms, Jessica and Mary Boso; grandsons, Joey Louther, and Thomas Newcome; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillie (Joe) Mayes of South Charleston, West Virginia; and many special nieces and nephews.

Julia was a member of First United Methodist Church of South Charleston, West Virginia. She attended Temple Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Ohio for many years.

Julia was a retired Area Director in the Weight loss filed and a dedicated employee of Southern Oho Domestic Violence Shelter.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor John Gowdy and Rev. J. D. Stevens officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family Suggests contributions be made to the Southern Ohio Domestic Violence Shelter, 2316 Grant Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662 or to Heartland Hospice, 205 North Street, Lucasville, Ohio 45648.

The family would like to express appreciation for the love, kindness, and excellent care give by Heartland Hospice and several special caregivers.

Arrangements are under the direction of F. C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth.
