Johnson, Derrick D. Age 43, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Jesse Brown Veterans Hospital in Chicago, IL. He was born to the late Samuel A. Walker and mother, Carole L. Johnson on April 17, 1970 in Gary, IN. Derrick is survived by his loving son, Emilio D. Johnson; loving daughter, Leilani C. Johnson; former wife and the loving mother to their children, Georgina C. Johnson; loving brother, Samuel T. Lewis and several other loving family members. Derrick was a born, raised and attended school in Gary. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years of service. Derrick was a lovely person and very passionate about animals. He was named Birdman because of his love especially for birds. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 10, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Main Chapel at the Ridgelawn Funeral Home, 4201 West Ridge Road, Gary, IN 46408 (219)980-5555. Military Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at St. Timothy Community Church, 1600 West 25th Avenue, Gary, IN with Dr. Rev. Alfred Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Derrick will be deeply missed by his loving family and precious friends. God Grant Him Eternal Peace.
