Johnson, Melvin Melvin Johnson peacefully passed away on March 21, 2014. Born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 19, 1944 to Jessie Pearl Johnson and Linniel Faniel. He attended Gary Roosevelt High School, later joined the U.S. Army, and fought courageously in the Vietnam War earning a Purple Heart. Returning, he married his devoted wife Gloria Robinson Johnson and became a longtime employee of U.S. Steel and Blaw-Knox. Preceded in death by father, Linniel; son, Jamell Johnson. Survived by mother, Jessie; wife, Gloria; daughters, LaTonya Cooper (Kenneth), Latres Johnson (Derick), Roshanda Robinson, Kwame Johnson, Kameda Robinson; sisters, Joyce Williams (Vernon), Teresa Phelps, Patricia Hull; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Visitation Sunday, March 30, 2014, 1:00p.m. -7:00p.m. Family hours 6:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. Funeral Monday, March 31, 2014, 12:00p.m. All services at Powell/Coleman 3200 W. 15th Ave, Gary. Interment Fern Oak Cemetery, Griffith, IN.
