Yancy, Porter Lee Peacefully made his transition January 20, 2013. Born to John & Vera Yancy in Wichita, KS. Professing Christ at an early age he Joined St. Paul Baptist Church and he later joined Calvary Baptist Church and served as a former Sunday School Teacher, Supt. Of Sunday School, also Board of Trustees and a 59 year Male Chorus member also member of the United Male Chorus. Porter graduated from Roosevelt High School 1947 and earned a BS and MBA from Purdue University Calumet. Member of Prince Hall Masonic affiliations, Past Master, St. Luke Lodge #43, Past Grand Chorister of M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Indiana, Associate Patron, Alpha Omega Chapter #53 O.E.S., Past Commander in Chief Magic City Consistory #62, Past Secretary St. Johns Chapter #7, and Scottish Rite 33rd Degree. Formally employed at Vulcan and M & T and worked at St. Timothy Community Church. Preceded in death by parents and siblings LaVerne Marshall, Helen Thornton, LaJoy Yancy and Raleigh Yancy. He leaves to cherish his memory wife of 51 years Mary, daughters LaJoyce (Calvin) Bankhead; Jeanette (Elder Richard) Green; LaDonna Rapier and Yolanda (Tony) Brown, sisters Dorothea Yancy; Maxine Yancy; Naomi Yancy; brothers Gene Yancy, Thomas Yancy; and Maurice Yancy; devoted niece Sharon Marshall; devoted nephew Edward Wallace; special nephew Eldridge (Bernadetta) Anthony; special nieces Linda Mitchell and Cynthia (Larry) Pruitt; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Visitation Friday, January 25, 2013 from 12 to 8:00pm, family hour 4 to 6pm; Masonic Rites at 6:00pm, sing along & words of encouragement at 7:00pm. Funeral services Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 10:00am all services at the Calvary Institutional Baptist Church, 2400 Virginia St. Rev. John Talley, Officiating. Interment at Fern Oaks Cemetery.
