John "Jack" Monaco Obituary
Monaco, John "Jack" Age 76, of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Porter Regional Hospital. He was born on September 3, 1937 in Teaneck, NJ, the son of the late Anthony and Jennie (D'Angelo) Monaco. Jack had served in the National Guard and worked as a construction superintendent Following retirement, Jack and his wife, Joan opened Monaco's Garden Center in Valparaiso. He was a charter member and past chief of the Washington Twp. Volunteer Fire Department and member of the Italian-American Benevolent Society in Merrillville. Jack was a great lover of the outdoors, avid hunter, and extraordinary gardener. On April 19, 1958 in New Jersey, Jack married Joan Albanese who survives along with their children, Donna (Bob) Gylling of The Woodlands, TX, Joe Monaco of Crown Point, John (Shanti) Monaco of Brooklyn, NY, and Jennie (Doug) Rettig of Crown Point; 5 grandchildren, Lucy and Sadie Gylling and Nick, Anthony, and Jacquelyn Rettig; brother, Gerald Monaco of Las Vegas, NV; and many loving Italian family members, countless friends, and loyal patrons. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Student Center, 1511 LaPorte Ave., Valparaiso with Fr. Kevin McCarthy officiating.
