Dr.  Allan L. Abramson Obituary
Abramson, Dr. Allan L. Husband, father, family physician, and friend passed away Friday, August 15, 2014. He was born on March 24, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Maurice Abramson and Louise Sperling Abramson and graduated from Hyde Park High School. Allan served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Upon returning, he married Florence Krause. Together they had four children. He graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School and began his Family Practice in Gary, IN. He loved his work, delivering countless babies and serving multigenerational families. Following more than 40 years of service at Methodist Hospital, Allan Abramson, M.D. retired as the hospital's Occupational Health Medical Director. Upon retirement, Allan volunteered as a physician at Sojourner Truth House in Gary, IN and Open Door in Michigan City, IN. In 1991, Allan married Patricia K. Tomsich. Over 23 years they shared their love of family, art and music. Dr. "A" loved people. His other interests included crossword puzzles, reading, history, music and art. He will be remembered for his kind heart and engaging nature. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Florence of 28 years. Survived by wife, Patty Abramson; children, Larry Abramson, Paul Abramson, Lisa Abramson, Ruth (Angel) Morales and Rob (Darlene) Tomsich; sister, Joan (Arthur) Rose; grandchildren, Carrie (Brian) Nemerovski, Joel (Francie) Abramson, Alex, Jazmine and Baby; great-grandchildren, Lucy and Eli Nemerovski; nieces, Beth, Janice, Lauren, Ellen; and great-nieces and nephews. In accordance with Allan's wishes, no services will be held. Memorial contributions can be made to Sojourner Truth House, 410 W. 13th Ave., Gary, IN 46407 or VNA Hospice of Porter County, 2401 Valley Dr., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
