Clark, David Thorsten 57, of Lowell, Indiana died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 21, 2014. David was born on February 15, 1957, in Hammond, Indiana, and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Sarah (Jeremiah) Ste. Marie of Shelby, IN; his loving son, Jason Clark of Crown Point, IN; cherished grandchildren, Emma and Caleb Ste. Marie; sister, Nancy Clark (Smith) of Schererville, IN; and sister-in-law, Dr. Rebecca Martin (late Ronald C. Clark) of Schoolcraft, Michigan. Left to fondly remember their fun-loving, special uncle are nieces and nephews, Erik (Tina) Smith and great-niece Ella, Dr. Geary (Laura) Smith, Dr. Alexis Clark, Megan (Eric) Stoffel, Christian (fiancée Christine) Clark, Rachel Clark and Aaron Clark. In addition, Dave is survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. David was preceded in death by parents, W. Carroll and Margaret Clark; brother, Dr. Ronald C. Clark and infant sister, Sheryl L. Clark. Dave graduated from Highland High School in 1975 and was a proud graduate of Purdue University, having earned a degree in Industrial Supervision. He dedicated his career to working at Arcelor-Mittal as a mechanic and as a safety specialist. While there, Dave earned recognition for his skills and innovation. Following his retirement, Dave was a consultant for ESW, Inc. In this capacity, he travelled to various steel mills sharing his expertise with both existing and start-up companies. Dave will also be remembered for the 20+ years he owned and operated D.C. Thorsten Hawaiian Shaved Ice Concession. His outgoing and gregarious personality won him a great following and many friends at area fairs and festivals. Services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 7227 Hohman Ave., Hammond, IN and officiated by Pastor Kevin Olson. Burial will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens along side his loving parents. Friends and family may call at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN from 3:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 24. Memorial contributions preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church. Dave loved travelling to tropical destinations, eating out at his favorite restaurants, and watching the Three Stooges. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his grandchildren, taking them to the park, the bounce house and to Chicago. Dave's untimely passing will be deeply felt by many.
