Kenneth C. Gabrielson, 85, of Litchfield, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Military honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard.
Kenneth Carlton Gabrielson was born Aug. 27, 1928, in Willmar, to Carl and Florence (Wilbur) Gabrielson. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1946 and was united in marriage to Phyllis Martens at the St. Peters Lutheran Church in Ellsworth Township on Oct. 15, 1949. Ken entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean conflict where he received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart Award. Ken farmed for several years in Ellsworth, Greenleaf and Darwin before moving to Litchfield, where he worked as a lineman for REA Electric for over 30 years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Disabled American Veteran's, a life member of the Admiral Benson V.F.W. Post #2818, the Litchfield Area Male Chorus, the South Fork Singers and was part of the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. He was a Sunday school teacher and served on the church counsel and was past president of the Men's Club. Ken was a soloist for many church, wedding and funeral services over the years, and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
Ken is survived by his children, Ronald (Faye) Gabrielson of Lake City, Karen (Lee) Marwede of Minnetonka, Daniel (Kari) Gabrielson of Maple Grove, Jane (Mark) Peterson of Bird Island and Sandra (Scott) Stockland of Litchfield; 11 grandchildren, Sarah (Gabe) Sandvik, Jessica (Ryan) Hoernemann, Melanie (Tony) Nachreiner, Jill (Alex) Jurek, Megan Gabrielson, Jeffrey Marwede, Tom Gabrielson, Amy (Darrin) Olmscheid, Jon Peterson, Nicholas Peterson and Zachary Stockland; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, George (Norma) Gabrielson, Donald (Elaine) Gabrielson and David (Judy) Gabrielson.
Ken is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; his parents; four brothers; five sisters and an infant grandson.
