The funeral for Carole L. Walsh will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, in the Samaritan Bethany Chapel on Eighth, officiated by the Rev. Jean Boese. Friends may call one-half hour before the service.
Carole Walsh, 72, of Rochester, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Samaritan Bethany on Eighth, where she has resided the past 18 years.
She was born Carole Lynne Ries on Sept. 4, 1941, in Austin, to Carroll and Frances (Monty) Ries. She graduated from Austin High School and attended Austin Junior College. Carole was a secretary and worked for Twin City Testing, University of Minnesota
and Mayo Clinic. She bravely dealt with Multiple Sclerosis for 40 years.
In the 1980s, she was recognized as one of the "The Ten Who Make a Difference" because of her work in prison ministry at the Federal Medical Center. She was also involved in nursing home activities and was a mentor to other residents.
She was a longtime member of Rochester Covenant Church and faithfully attended church and bible studies until her health would not allow it. Carole was steadfast in her faith, upbeat and enjoyed cracking jokes with the nursing home staff.
Carole is survived by a sister, Bonnie Peterson of Rochester; a niece, Vicki (Howard) Donohue of Stewartville; a great-niece, Amy (Bryan) Hanson of Stewartville; great-nephews, Seth Prokasky, Bryan (Cassie) Pressnall and Howie Donohue all of Stewartville; and great-great nephews and nieces, Alex, Isaac and Logan and Makayla Prokasky, Hunter and Ethan Pressnall and Kayleigh Hanson.
Family would like to thank the staff of Samaritan Bethany Home for the loving care they provided Carol over the years.
Memorials are suggested to Samaritan Bethany Activities Fund or donor's choice.
