Roger Dean Elston Jr.

Roger Dean Elston, Jr., 55, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Roger was born Nov. 29, 1958, in Sioux Falls, S.D., but spent most of his years in California. He served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during the '70s. He was stationed in Colorado, California, Germany and did cruises to the Med and Asia. He moved to Las Vegas, Nev., in 2008 where he worked security at a Las Vegas casino. Roger moved to Rochester in July of this year and lived with his brother and sister-in-law until his death.

Roger was a loyal and compassionate friend, son, brother and uncle. He would literally give someone in need the shirt off his back. His family is grateful for the five months they were able to enjoy is company and humor while in Rochester.

Roger enjoyed motorcycling, fishing and traveling. Like his father, he also liked "junk."

Roger is survived by his brother, Don Mitchell, sister-in-law, Diane Mitchell; nephews, Gary Mitchell, Jason Mitchell, Brian McCabe, Phillip Carrick and Ron Harris; his niece, Bethany McCabe; and sister, Carmen Harris.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Tony Carrick; mother, Norma Elston and father, Roger Elston.

A private service will be held at a later date.
