William Howard Witte, 86, of Rochester, passed away April 19, 2014, at Saint Marys Hospital.
He was born Oct. 7, 1927, in St. Paul, the son of Howard and Harriett (Sens) Witte. He served in the United States Navy
during World War II
. He attended the University of Minnesota
, and then went to work for KROC in Rochester. He later worked as an engineer for IBM retiring in 1986. William married Donna Woolley May 29, 1954, and she preceded him in death on April 28, 1998.
He was a member of the Shriners, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Moose and Elks lodges, and he was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and was an avid sports fan, following the Vikings and Twins. William always enjoyed telling stories, loved the occasional "KaNooper" and was an all-around fun and "witty" great guy whom will be missed.
Surviving are his children, Kimberly Witte of Rochester, Bob Witte of Rochester, Cindee Grund (Randy) of Byron, Lois Riess (David) of Blooming Prairie and Butch Witte of Rochester; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two sisters, Lois and Joyce.
A visitation celebrating his life will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes. A private family burial of cremains will take place at Acacia Cemetery in St. Paul.
