Ernest John "Ernie" Bremer

Ernest "Ernie" John Bremer, 87, of Lake City, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Mayo Health System Lake City Hospital.

Ernest was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Lake City, to Henry and Martha (Ehlers) Bremer. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Ruth (Meyer) Johnson on Jan. 27, 1968, in South Dakota. The couple lived in St. Paul where he worked at Buckbee Mears Company in St. Paul as a production and maintenance manager for 31 years. After retirement, the couple moved to Lake City.  

Ernest was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church Lake City, American Legion Post 110 and Lake City Lion's Club. He was a past member of the Lake City Nursing Home Board and Streets and Parks Board. 

He is survived by two daughters, Susan (Jerry Murphy) Johnson, of Bigfork, Mont., and Kathleen (Gene) Cesca, of New Bern, N.C.; son, Mark Johnson, of Mahtomedi; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; four brothers, Carl, Willard, Arthur and Eric; and two sisters, Eleanor Moechnig and Esther Freihiet.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, with Pastor Dennis Valleau officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church.

Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church, Lake City. 

Military rites will be performed by Lake City VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post 110.
