The funeral for Darlene V. Veerkamp will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2014, at St. Pius X Catholic Church of Rochester, with the Rev. Msgr. Donald P. Schmitz officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Mrs. Veerkamp, 78, of Rochester, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Rochester Methodist Hospital after a courageous six-year battle with multiple myeloma.
Darlene was born Oct. 30, 1935, in Claremont, to Henry and Louise (Dietz) Jante. She graduated from Owatonna High School in Owatonna. On July 13, 1957, she married Cyril G. Veerkamp at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. The couple lived in Rochester their entire married life. Darlene worked at Federated Insurance Company in Owatonna following her graduation from high school as well as a car hop at the local A&W. After marriage, she became a full-time mother and homemaker.
She is survived by daughters, Susan (Dennis) Stehr of Elko New Market and Nancy Veerkamp of Shoreview; one brother, Lester (Jane) Jante of Medford; and two sisters, Lucille Rolfe of Rochester and Shirley Nesdahl of San Jose, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cy; a daughter, Karen Marie Veerkamp; parents, Henry and Louise Jante; a brother, Lawrence Jante; and sisters, Mildred More and Dorothy Eaton.
Memorials are preferred to cancer research.
