Lillian D. Turner, 101, formerly of Lanesboro, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, at the Green Lea Manor in Mabel.

Lillian was born Oct. 15, 1912, in Kendallville, Iowa, to Edward and Jane (Ellingson) Hoiness, the sixth of 11 children. The family moved to Harmony, where her father owned and operated the Harmony Creamery. She graduated from Harmony High School, and later moved to Billings, Mont., where two older brothers were living. It was in Billings that she met John L. Jones. They were married in 1935 in Decorah, Iowa. John was active in the Shrine. Lillian was a member of the Daughters of Nile. Their involvement in the Shrine activities was important to them both. "Johnnie" passed away in 1984.

Lillian was very active in her church, also belonged to the Sons of Norway, American Legion Auxiliary. and Eastern Star. While living in Billings, she owned and operated a knitting shop, also giving knitting lessons to both men and woman. Cooking was a joy and a hobby as evidenced by her large collection of cookbooks and recipes.

She loved to travel and had been to China, Spain, Hawaii, Mexico and Norway. In 1989, she married Earl Turner of Lanesboro. They enjoyed traveling, eating out and being with their family and friends. Earl passed away in 1998.

She will be remembered for her great sense of humor and a positive attitude.

Survivors include two children, John Robert "Bob" Jones of Houston, Texas and Jacqueline L. Crutcher of Lanesboro; stepdaughter, Elaine Turner of Wykoff; four grandchildren, Lisa (Chris) Osgood of Tacoma, Wash., Julie McDonald of Portland, Ore., Pamela Lyles of Las Vegas, Nev., and Paul Crutcher of Portland, Ore.; 12 great-grandchildren, Nathan (Crystal) Phillis, Brodie and Logan McDonald, Eric, Brian and Stephen Osgood, Turner Witt, Tara (Shaun) South, Ronald Lyles, Kyle,  Madeline and Cameron Crutcher; and three great-great-grandchildren, Chasen and Eliana Phillis and Nathan Witt. Survivors also include one sister, Muriel Waage of Northfield; three sisters-in-law, Zola Hoiness of Harmony, Carol Jones of Wilsonville, Ore., and Ruth Jones of Sun City, Ariz. Many beloved nieces and nephews also survive.

Lillian was preceded in death by her first husband, John Lewis Jones, second husband, Earl Turner, her parents, seven brothers and two sisters. 

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, with Pastor Kerry Eversole officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. A committal service will take place at a later date in Billings, Mont.

Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lanesboro.
