Harvey B. Sathre, 93, of Adams, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at his home.

Harvey was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Austin, to Johnny and Bertha (Benson) Sathre. On Sept. 20, 1942, Harvey married Alice Johnson at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1948. Upon returning home, Harvey was a dairy farmer for many years. From 1963 to 1973, he served in the Minnesota State House of Representatives. In 1990, Harvey retired and moved to Adams.

Harvey enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, genealogy and loved history. His real passion was to visit with his neighbors, friends and especially to spend time with his family.

Harvey was very civic minded, he was a former mayor of Adams, the treasurer of the Adams Conservation Club, a member of the Mower County Fair Board of 15 years, was inducted into the Mower County Agriculture Hall of Fame, a member and past chairman of the Mower County Republican party, recipient of several FFA awards, including the Honorary State Farmer Degree, a member of the original Dairy Princess committee, he was listed in Who's Who in Minnesota and Who's Who in the Midwest. While serving in the state legislature, Harvey authored legislation putting the colored picture on driver's licenses, establishing Lake Louise State Park in Leroy, helped secure funding for the Adams Community Park and spearheaded the establishment of the Adams Area Medical Center. Harvey was a member of Little Cedar Lutheran Church, the Adams American Legion, Austin VFW, the Sons of Norway and the Mower County Historical Society.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Alice of Adams; children, Diane (Joe) Mass, Rochester; Lynn (Jane) Sathre, Adams; John (Susie) Sathre, Adams; Beth (David) Voigt, Taopi; Jim (Connie) Sathre, Adams; David Sathre, Adams; and Carrie (Jeff) Anderson, Ash Grove, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna (TJ) Williams, Albuquerque, N.M.; Joan (Tom) Adams, Boulder City, Nev.; Ann (Gary) Eppen, Goodyear, Ariz.; Byron Huseby, Adams; Basil Bellrichard, Austin; Dick Noterman, Sun City West, Ariz.; and sister-in-law, Joanne Sathre, Austin.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Paul, Maynard and Bill; sisters, Helen Huseby and Dorothy Bellrichard and sisters-in-law, Morna Sathre and Alice Sathre.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 23, at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams, with the Rev. Jeremy Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery with Adams American Legion Post #146 in charge of military rites.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at the Adams Funeral Home and at the church for one hour before the service on Saturday.

Sathre Families,
My deepest sympathy to all of you in this wonderful, dear family.
I have enjoyed being with you all through the years. Lots of good, wonderful, & happy memories of you all.
Harvey & Alice really started something to be proud of.
A memorial has been given in Harvey's name to the Leroy Public Library. PLEASE no Thank You is needed.
