George Reinhart passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at the Stewartville Care Center where he had resided the past four months under the loving care of his wife, Florence, their family, Pastor Lyle Fritsch, Mayo hospice and the staff of the care center.

George was born Dec. 7, 1918, on the family farm, north of Spring Valley, to Knut and Bertha (Danielsen) Reinhart, and he was the third of four siblings. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville, where he served as an elder and an usher.

George attended Spring Valley Schools through the eighth grade and from then became self-taught, learning skills which he applied in many work related areas. In June 1943, George married Bernelda Ida Prescher in Rochester. She preceded him in death on March 22, 1950. On July 28, 1951, George was united in marriage to Florence Anna Schulze at the St. Johns Lutheran Church Parsonage in Stewartville. They were fortunate to spend 62 years of marriage together. They made their home on the family farm in Racine Township. George and Florence, with their five children, took pride in maintaining a well-kept and operational place for many years until 1978 when they moved and took up residence in Stewartville.

George was employed at the All-American Co-op in Stewartville, served on the Racine town board, and was a charter member of the Woodlawn Cemetery board of trustees, formed on Jan. 1, 1967. He continued his commitment and dedication as superintendent, caring for the grounds of Woodlawn Cemetery for 42 years. This was one of the services he did for the community.

George enjoyed reading, woodworking, designing and creating pieces for his family and friends. The Reinharts did much traveling together as family. One of his greatest trips was to Norway and meeting his relatives there. It was of prime importance to meet his coffee friends each day at the Senior Care Center in Stewartville.

Left to honor and cherish George's memory are his loving wife, Florence; and his four daughters and one son, Shirley (Rollin) Granger, of Cyprus, Texas, Irene (Craig) VanHauten, of Coon Rapids, Julie (Stanley) Glenz, of Spring, Texas, Marjorie (Kirk) Brunson, of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and David Reinhart, of Robbinsdale; and many grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews living throughout the United States.

In addition to his parents, Knut and Bertha Reinhart, George was preceded in death by his wife, Bernelda Prescher; two sisters, Esther (Leonard) Converse and Lillian (Cecil) Fredrickson and one brother, Albert (Alice) Reinhart.

George will be missed and loved always. He is now resting in the everlasting arms of Jesus.

The funeral service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, with the Rev. Lyle Fritsch officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of his service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Johns Lutheran Church; Woodlawn Cemetery of Stewartville or Mayo Hospice, 200 First St. S.W., Rochester MN 55904.
