Gauerke, Kenneth W. "Ken"  
Gauerke, Kenneth W. "Ken" Kenneth W. "Ken" Gauerke, age 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2015. He was born on October 13, 1926 to the late Alfred and Meta (Bartz) Gauerke. After Meta passed away when Ken was 15 months old, he was raised by Alfred and Esther (Maass) Gauerke. Ken graduated from Shawano High School in 1944 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. He served in the CIC Division from 1946 to 1948. Ken was proud to go on a Glory Honor Flight on April 7, 2011 to commemorate his military service. On June 10, 1950 Ken married Shirley Arnold, and they spent 61 years of marriage together before she passed away on December 31, 2011. He always had a strong faith and he was the oldest charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Ken was instrumental on the planning committee of the church while it was being built. He was a lifelong member and former President of the Greater Appleton Kiwanis Club. While he was there, he was awarded the George F. Hixson Award for outstanding service and achievement. Ken was also a member of the VFW Harvey Pierre Post and the American Legion He owned Ken's Carpet and Installation and was very proud to work alongside his son, Gary for many years. He had a passion for deer hunting, bowling, watching the Cubs, and cooking in the kitchen, especially soups. Ken also enjoyed pitching in the Lutheran Church League. He loved listening to his best friend, the radio with big band music playing. In his later years, Ken cared deeply for his great-grandchildren and grandpets and greatly enjoyed spending time with them. He is survived by his daughter Susan (Michael) Turner and their son Andrew (Caitlin) Turner; son Gary (Annette) Gauerke and their children: Jennifer (Gary) Westerman, Jason (Jinnifir) Gauerke, and Robin (Scott) Bromm; great-grandchildren: Libby and Joshua Westerman, Judd and Ella Gauerke; and Natalie, Spencer, and Sidney Bromm. Ken is further survived by his brothers: Robert (Juanita) Gauerke, Rev. Eugene (Elvira) Gauerke; sister-in-law Marjorie Gauerke; brother-in-law Stanley Arnold, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, wife Shirley Gauerke; great-grandson Koy Westerman; brother Rev. Donald Gauerke; brother-in-law Earl (Marion) Arnold; and sister-in-law Carol Arnold. Funeral services for Ken will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2330 E. Calumet Street, Appleton with Rev. Roger McQuistion and Pastoral Intern Cheryl Davis officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church are appreciated. Ken's family would like to thank Dr. Craig Hendel, Gold Cross Paramedics, Appleton Fire Department, the staff at AMC, Rennes Rehab, ThedaCare at Home and his nurse Julie for all of their wonderful care. Further thanks go to Rev. Roger McQuistion and Pastoral Intern Cheryl Davis for all of their guidance and prayers. We will love and miss you forever. Until we meet again.

Gassner, Shirley  
Gassner, Shirley Shirley A. Gassner (nee Derus) age 80 of Kaukauna passed away June 3, 2015 surrounded by family. Shirley was born June 29, 1934, daughter of the late John and Mabel (Phillips) Derus. She married Edward J. Gassner in July of 1952, together they raised five daughters. Shirley devoted her life to raising her children and keeping their household in order while her husband ran many businesses. She enjoyed reading, crafting and spending time with friends and family at their cottage on Kelly Lake. Shirley worked for a short time at Kings Variety in Little Chute and Copps Food Center in Appleton making many friends before retiring. She is survived by her daughters: Pam (John) Springer, Sandy (Pat) Romenesko, Lea (Jeff) Majetich, Lyn (fiancé John Adrian) Gassner and Julie (Brian) Ambrosius; grandchildren: George (Janae) and Brian Springer, Keith (Amie) and Cory Romenesko, Andy (Tia), Terri and Chris Bruckner, Jenny Gassner, Duane and Brianna Ambrosius; great-grandchildren: John and Morgan Springer, Maddison and Jack Weber, Damian and Destany Bruckner. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and a brother-in-law: Lorraine Derus and Margaret (John) Leatherbury. A memorial service for Shirley will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015 at BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends may call from 12 Noon until the time of service with inurnment at St. Mary's Cemetery immediately following the service. It was Shirley's wish, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lupus Foundation. 766-2099 Mom - you are gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. We love you and miss you - Pam, Sandy, Lea, Lyn and Julie Shirley's family would like to thank the staff and fellow residents at Matthew's Senior Living, Appleton and Heartland Hospice for the care and compassion given to Shirley over the last year.
