Schmalz, Marie A.  
Schmalz, Marie A. Marie A. Schmalz, 88, of Appleton, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 surrounded by her family at Rennes Health & Rehab. Marie was born on May 12, 1926 in Gillett to the late Gust and Esther Montie. She was a graduate of Tipler High School. On February 4, 1954 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Gerald Schmalz. Marie was a cook at various restaurants and super clubs in the area. She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, gardening, bird watching, and was an avid Packer fan. Marie is survived by her children; G. Dennis (Lois) Schmalz, Greg Schmalz, Wayne (Becky) Schmalz, and Lori (Carl) Barkow, her grandchildren; Matt (Jodi) Schmalz, Jamye (Don) Winker, Racheal Kroll, Derek Schmalz, Jason (Dawn) Farr, Heather (Jim) Langton, Tiffany, Kelsey, and Amber Schmalz, Ryan (Amy) Woldt, and Sara Woldt, and16 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Ruth Freye, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald, daughter Amy Brewe, brothers Harold (Beulah) Montie and Robert (Juanita) Montie, and by her brother-in-law William Freye. A memorial service will be held TODAY, December 23, 2014 at 6:00 PM at Valley Funeral Home 2211 N. Richmond St. Appleton, with Fr. James Lucas officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family TODAY, December 23, 2014 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the FUNERAL HOME. The family would like to express a special Thank you to the staff at Rennes Health & Rehab Center for the excellent care and support they gave Marie.

Schmelzle, Sister Madonna  
Schmelzle, Sister Madonna Sister Madonna Schmelzle, age 97, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died late Tuesday evening, December 16, 2014 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. The former Gretna Schmelzle was born on February 6, 1917 in Forestville/Maplewood, WI, daughter of the late John and Augusta (Brey) Schmelzle. She entered the Convent in 1931 and professed her vows in 1935. Sister Madonna earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Norbert College, De Pere and a Master of Arts Degree from Notre Dame University, Notre Dame, Indiana. Sister Madonna served as a teacher at Guardian Angels, West Point, Nebraska; St. Boniface, Manitowoc, St. Joseph, Green Bay, St. Theresa, Appleton and principal at St. Bernadette, Appleton and Holy Redeemer, Two Rivers, Wisconsin. She also served in the Green Bay Diocesan Office as supervisor and superintendent of schools for 18 years. After retiring from the education apostolate, she served as a Pastoral Associate at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Green Bay and helper with tasks assigned at the Motherhouse. Since 2007, she had been residing in St. Rita Health Center. Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; one sister: Joanna Stephan; and one brother-in-law: Jack Dressen. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Augusta (Brey) Schmelzle; one sister: Jo Dressen; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Cornelius and Gloria Schmelzle, Ambrose and Myrtle Schmelzle; and one brother-in-law: Edwin Stephan. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Placid Storik, OFM with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 and Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Convent Chapel. The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Schweitzer, Midge  
Marjorie J. "Midge" Schweitzer Marjorie J. "Midge" Schweitzer, 91, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Valley VNA. Midge was born on November 4, 1923 to Joseph and Margaret (Neugebauer) Meiers. On September 29, 1945 she was united in marriage to John F. Schweitzer in Appleton. She was a champion for the underprivileged, with a passionate focus on social justice. Midge responded to Appleton's need for transitional housing when she introduced Project Open Door in 1993, remodeling an empty convent for the homeless. She also served as a mentoring coordinator, helping the homeless prepare for independent living. For many years she chaired the St. Joseph Parish Social Concerns/Justice Committee. Midge was co-president of the Christ Child Society and served as co-director of Christ Child Camp, which served the developmentally disabled. Midge and her family prepared and served a community Easter dinner at St. Joseph Parish. She also served as coordinator of Fr. Glenn's Mission Club, organizing collections of supplies for shipment to the Capuchin Mission in Nicaragua. Midge received the Gaudium et Spes award from the Green Bay Diocese in 1999. She was a very active and outgoing person with a very soft heart and strong faith. Most of all, Midge was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. The special memories she made with her family and friends will always be treasured. She was a fantastic cook, loved playing cards, enjoyed music, dancing and a good practical joke. Midge is survived by her husband of 69 years, John, ten children; Joel (Jane) Schweitzer, Peg (partner Bill Haag) Meltz, Patti (Rick) Hayes, Kris (Dave) Mader, Jim (Deb) Schweitzer, Susan (partner Joe Hotyinski) Lee, Lori (Tom) Gray, Jeff (Kathy) Schweitzer, Kurt (Deb) Schweitzer, Tom (Charla) Schweitzer, 28 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, a sister Dorothy Grade, sister-in-law, Jane Fischer, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Midge was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jack Schweitzer, a great granddaughter Lily Eversen, a daughter-in-law, Brenda Schweitzer, a brother, Jack (Sally) Meiers, and brothers-in-law; Earl Grade and Dan Schweitzer, and sisters-in-law; Bernice Buzanowski and Reta Timmers. The funeral liturgy will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence St. with Fr. Jim Leary, O.F. M. Cap. officiating. Shannon, Andrew  
Shannon, Andrew Andrew Shannon, of Neenah, died Sunday, December 21, 2014 at his home. He was 72 years old. He was born on July 7, 1942 in White Lake, a son of Vernon and Veronica (Darinski) Shannon. He married Carol Pomasl on December 7, 1967 in White Lake. She preceded him in death in 1995. He was a graduate of White Lake High School and served state side in the United States Army having been trained as a medic. After marriage he lived in Hortonville and was employed at Banta Corporation in Menasha. He moved to Neenah in 1978 and retired from P.H. Glatfelter in 2005. Mr. Shannon cherished his role as husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed returning to the White Lake area where he hunted, fished and tubed down the Wolf River. Survivors include a daughter, Jill Shannon and fiance Joseph Jahnke of Suamico; a son, Mark Shannon, Neenah; two grandchildren Trent and Shannon Whitpan; three sisters, Helen (George) Miller, Appleton, Sharon (John) Krablean, Colorado Springs, CO, Mary (Robert) Stone, San Antonio, TX; three sisters-in-law Vi Shannon, Everette WA., Jeannie Shannon and Patsy Shannon, both of White Lake. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Shannon in infancy; four brothers, Neal, Hugh, James and Gerald Shannon. A memorial service will be held on Monday December 29, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home Hwy. 45 Antigo. Visitation will be Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Cooney Simon Cooney (Marion) Simon died on Monday, December 15, 2014, in Kaukauna, surrounded by family. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at ST. KATHERINE DREXEL CATHOLIC CHURCH—ST. MARY SITE, 119 West Seventh Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends may call at ST. KATHERINE DREXEL CATHOLIC CHURCH--ST. MARY SITE, Kaukauna, on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again directly at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Spoehr, Anna  
Anna K. Spoehr Anna Kristine Spoehr passed away Sunday morning, December 21, 2014, after a 10 year struggle with mental illness. Anna was born on April 25, 1991. She enjoyed sharing her love of music and art. Anna had a tender soul that gave her the ability to reach out to others in need. She is survived by her parents: Gary and LeeAnn (Lantta) Spoehr; a sister and brother-in-law: Laura (Spoehr) and Tyler Gibson; a niece: Nora Ann Gibson; and her maternal grandmother June Lantta, whom she had a very special relationship with. Anna is further survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who all loved her very much. She was preceded on her journey to heaven by her paternal grandparents: Bryce and Ellen Spoehr and her maternal grandfather: William Lantta. A memorial service for Anna will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 26, 2014, at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 912 N Oneida St., Appleton, with Rev Lloyd Luedeman officiating.
