Arlen "Tiny" E. Sasse, age 83 of Clintonville, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Appleton Medical Center.
"Tiny" was born on April 5, 1929, in Clintonville the son of the late Benjamin and Olga (Hoffmann) Sasse. He graduated early from Clintonville High School in 1946. Tiny served in the U.S. Army from 1946 until his discharge in 1948, when he returned to Clintonville. He was reactivated in the Army National Guard from 1963 until 1965: In 2012, he received the Berlin Crisis Metal. On May 29, 1952, Tiny was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Holtz in Clintonville. The couple had lived in Clintonville all of their married life. Tiny had worked at the F.W.D. Corporation (now Seagrave Fire Apparatus), Clintonville and owned and operated Sasse Reality also in Clintonville. He also served as a game warden for the Department of Natural Resources in Waupaca County until his retirement. Mrs. Sasse preceded her husband in death on March 21, 2003, after 51 years of marriage. Tiny was a pet lover and had many talents such playing harmonica and writing poems. He also was a true sportsman who loved hunting, fishing, trapshooting, golf, archery, softball and curling. Tiny was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville, the Wisconsin Bow Hunters Association, Clintonville Riverside Golf Club, Clintonville Trap Club and was past president of the Clintonville Curling Club. In 1976, he was proud to have served as parade marshal for the sentential celebration in Clintonville.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy (Jason) Woolver, Rochester, NY; his son, Barry Sasse, San Diego, CA; his grandchildren, Alexander Sasse & Max Woolver; his sisters, Gladys du Mee', Marion; Betty Millard, Clintonville; Mary Ann Romberg, Marion; his brothers, Willard "Spud" (Fae) Sasse, Clintonville; Allen (Rosemary) Sasse, Clintonville; Merritt Sasse, Clintonville; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mary Sasse, Carbondale, IL; Beverly (Herman) Krueger, Manawa; and William (Janet) Holtz, New London; umerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, "Betty", 2 brothers, Earl in infancy and Edward, his brother, Lesley (Betty) Sasse, his sister-in-law, Beverly Sasse, his brothers-in-law, Jack du Mee', Franklyn Romberg and Harry Millard.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville, with the Rev. Christian Burg and the Rev. Vilas Mazemke officiating. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Military honors will be provided at the church by the American Legion Post # 63 and the V.F.W
. Post # 664 of Clintonville.
