Smith, Clyde J.
Clyde John Smith, age 92, died peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton surrounded by his family.
Clyde was born on March 14, 1921 in Kaukauna the son of the Henry and Harriett (Verhagen) Smith. He was united in marriage to Lyola Berken on January 17, 1942 in Wrightstown at St. Paul Catholic Church. Clyde served his country during WWII
in the Army and was honorable discharged in December 1945. Clyde and Lyola lived most of their adult lives in Appleton. He spent most of his working years in the service industry. Following his retirement, he enjoyed his vegetable garden and fruit trees. Clyde was a member of St. Paul Parish in Combined Locks.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lyola of 71 years, and their seven children, Carol (Wayne) Reinhardt, Janice Schink and friend John Friis, Mark (Terry) Smith, Kay (Robert) Mitchell, Barbara (William) Thiel, Judy (Bruce) Kallin and Debra (Bruce) Cherney, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Marvin, Jerome and Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two children, Allen and Diane, a sister, Annaceil and a brother, Wilford.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 3:00PM Friday, October 11, 2013 at St. Paul Parish in Combined Locks 410 Wallace Street, with Rev. Andrew Kysely officiating. Full military honors will follow the Mass at the church. Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna. Clyde's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Friday from 1:00PM until the time of service.
