Ernida White

Ernida Ruth (Barnowsky) White, age 89, went to meet her Lord and Savior on May 15, 2014. She was born January 9, 1925 to Julius and Edna Barnowsky of Monico, WI. Ernida grew up in a large family with 3 brothers and 5 sisters. The 8th in this family of 9, she was fondly known as "Toots". As a young girl she loved music, writing songs and taught herself to play the old pump organ at home. She graduated from High School in Rhinelander, WI at age 17 and moved to Chicago, IL to work.

On March 25, 1944 she married her sweetheart, Marshall White, who had just returned home from service in World War II. They lived for a short time in Charlotte, NC and then returned to the Midwest, to Waukegan, IL and then moving to Door County Wisconsin, first in Jacksonport and then Egg Harbor for several years before finally settling in Appleton in 1962.

While raising her 5 children, Ernida also worked for 25 years for Aid Association for Lutherans where she used her skills as an executive secretary back in the day when shorthand was a must. She was approved as an underwriter a few years before her retirement in 1987.

During those years she held several different offices, including President, within International Toastmistress Club, often traveling to Canada and once to Australia to present award winning speeches. As a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, she played the large bells in the bell choir, sang a second alto in the church choir, was an active member of the Altar Guild and served on the Prayer Chain.

Ernida was an avid league bowler, bowling up to 3 times a week into her 80's. She was a Green Bay Packers fan and proud season ticket holder since 1963. Ernida enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, jig-saw puzzles and beating everyone at Scrabble. In their retirement years Ernida and Marshall purchased property at Harbour Village Condominium Resort in Door County where Ernida served on the board for several years. They both loved to travel, visiting most of the 50 States in their RV that they fondly named "The Pregnant Roller Skate." They enjoyed many River Boat Cruises and a tour of Europe.

Ernida is survived by, four of her children, Linda Ensley of Waupaca, Kenneth (Barbara) White of Appleton, Edward (Carolyn) White of Abrams and Judi (Dennis) Monday of Appleton, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one sister, Edna Friz of Rhinelander, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Marshall, one son, Randall, her parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service, at 11:00AM, Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2220 E. College Ave, Appleton.
