Gereon Unmuth

Unmuth, Gereon E.

Gereon "Jerry" Unmuth, 70, of Appleton, died Thursday, October 17, 2013, at ManorCare of Appleton.

Jerry was born January 16, 1943, in Iron Mountain, MI, the son of the late Edward L. and Lorraine (Bourasa) Unmuth. He was a graduate of Appleton High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Louise Kuether Krahn on August 14, 1981, in Appleton. Prior to his retirement, Jerry worked for Foremost Foods/Dairy for 30 years. He also owned and operated Jerry's Carpet Installation service.

The true joy in his life was his family. Jerry was a kind, considerate and giving person who gave himself to other people first. He was a member of the Fox Valley Vietnam Veterans' Association and volunteered many hours at Appleton Medical Center. He loved to fly fish and made treks to Canada every spring to enjoy the fishing there. He was a member of the Theiler hunting camp in Lac du Flambeau, WI. Jerry and Louise also enjoyed spending time at their trailer at the Wildlife Campground near Birnamwood. Jerry enjoyed listening to jazz and blues music. He loved the open road and riding his beloved Harley. He often went for breakfast and frequently picked up other peoples' tabs anonymously. Jerry was a hugger when he said hello or good bye-it was always with a hug. He was the first one to offer help and the last one to accept it.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; his children: Kelly Unmuth, Lisa (Sean) Duffey, Natalie Heiman, and Bill Unmuth; stepchildren, Dean Krahn and Melissa (Rob) Polzin; there are 11 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and two great grandchildren; a sister, Kathy (Dave) Zobel, and three brothers: Jack (Jody) Unmuth, Joe Unmuth and Mark (Stephanie) Unmuth; sisters-in-law, Alice (Roy) Stingle and Julie (Jeff) Hoerning; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William, and father-in-law, Eddie Kuether.

The funeral service for Jerry will be Monday, October 21, 2013, 6:00 p.m., at Valley Funeral Home, with Pastor Martin Ruge officiating. Visitation will begin Monday at 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established in Jerry's honor by the family.
