Gloria J. Kalies, age 82, of Brillion, died peacefully at home on April 12, 2014.
She was born on June 9, 1931 in Wilburton, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Martin P. Roberts, Sr. and Elsie I. (Moffett) King. Her family moved to Sacramento, California when Gloria was 4 years old. She met her husband of 65 years, Allan J. Kalies, on a blind date while he was in the service. The couple returned to Brillion and got married on January 20, 1949 in Brillion. Allan and Gloria lived and raised nine children in the Brillion area, all while owning and operating Spring Creek Landscaping in Brillion for 22 years.
Survivors include her husband, Allan; nine children: Valerie Schisel of Brillion, Kathy Koffarnus of Kaukauna, Gary (Bev) Kalies of Reedsville, David (Debbie) Kalies of Brillion, Diane Mulvihill of Appleton, Jeffrey (Linda) Kalies of Brillion, Thomas Kalies (special friend Lori Jahnke) of Askeaton, Stephen (Shelia) Kalies of Reedsville, and Robert (Amy) Kalies of Brillion; 29 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren with one on the way; 9 great- great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister: Ruby McFarland of Middleton, ID; brother & sisters-in-law: Keith (Sylvia) Roberts of Sacramento, CA, Jane Kalies of Taus, Shirley Kalies of Kaukauna, and Donna Roberts of Nevada. Nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends further survive. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather: Wilbur D. King; brothers: Martin P. Roberts, Jr. and Jewel Roberts; sons-in-law: Steven Mulvihill and Steven Koffarnus; grandchildren: Donald Schisel and Amber Doughty; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ervin Minnie (Pfluger) Kalies; and sister and brothers-in-law: Opal (Earl) Miller, John McFarland, Gerald Kalies, and Donald Kalies.
Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Timothy Brandt. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday evening, April 15, 2014 at the church from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. A prayer service will take place at 7:30 p.m. The visitation will continue on Wednesday morning, also at the church, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.
