Hannah Sakowski, age 86, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Manor Care. She was born in Germany on November 27, 1926, daughter of the late Anton and Matilde Altmann. Hannah married Walter Sakowski, and in 1947 they immigrated to Milwaukee where they raised their three children. She was proud to become an American citizen.
Hannah worked hard her whole life. She was a licensed beautician, a master at weaving wigs and worked at the Oster Company and Badger Meter in Milwaukee.
Hannah had such a love for animals. She had many pets, some not so ordinary, such as ducks, a crow and an iguana. She could nurse any animal back to health and was known throughout the neighborhood as the unofficial veterinarian. She also enjoyed hunting, knitting blankets and baking the most delicious cookies. Hannah adored her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She would often give them "sewing" projects that they were never quite sure what they were for, but made them feel important. She always put the needs of others before her own.
Hannah is survived by her two sons, John Sakowski (Paula Hungerford) and Jim Sakowski; her two sisters, Gisele Talentina, and Maria Margaret Miller; one brother, Alfons Altmann; her four grandchildren, Eric, Lisa, Brenda and Kristen Sakowski; former daughter in law, Valerie Zellmer; along with many other relatives in Germany. Hannah was preceded in death by her oldest son, Walter D. Sakowski.
In keeping with her wishes, no services will be held.
A special thank you to Manor Care for the care they provided during the last five and a half years. Thank you also to her special friend Patricia Hoehnen who regularly sent her cards of encouragement.
