Hildegard Rackow, in her 94th year, passed from her earthly life to her heavenly life on February 19, 2014.
Hildegard was born on October 12, 1920 in Gruenhof, Germany to the late Adolf and Henriette (Krueger) Topel. She lived and worked in Germany and during World War II fled the Russian invasions with her sweetheart, Kurt, whom she married on September 15, 1945. They immigrated to the United States, arriving in New York on December 20, 1949, and lived in the Fox Valley the remaining years of their lives. Kurt preceded her in death on June 11, 2007.
Hildegard was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton and later of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Neenah. She was a super mom and housewife and her interests included gardening, oil painting, sewing and baking. Mom also enjoyed sharing her time and talents with her friends at church.
Hildegard is survived by her daughter, Barbara, and her husband, John Findley of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; her daughter, Christine, and her husband, Fred Kons of Greenville, Wisconsin; one step-grandson, Tom Findley, his wife, Meghan, two great grandchildren, Leroy and Josephine. She is further survived by close family members in the area, nieces, nephews and cousins in Germany, as well as countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, siblings and their spouses - Louise, (Hans), Frieda (Max), Erich (Frieda), Alfred (Charlotte), and Irmgard (Willi); and brother-in-law, Guenther Rackow.
Visitation with the family will begin at 4 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 27th at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1140 Tullar Road, Neenah, Wisconsin with Rev. Tabitha Gallatin officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah, Wisconsin.
