Konetzke, James "Jim"
James (Jim) Bernard Konetzke, age 86 of Menasha, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Fox River Nursing & Rehab after battling the effects of dementia for many years. He was born December 9, 1927 to the late Bernard and Mary (Spilski) Konetzke.
Jim graduated from Menasha High School in 1946. He was united in marriage to Carol Spielbauer on June 19, 1954 in Menasha where they raised their six children. He worked at George Banta Co. for 25 years followed by the Menasha School System where he worked in the maintenance department, retiring in 1990. As a do-it-yourselfer he worked alongside general contractors to complete the finishing work on three new homes in which the family lived. He enjoyed many activities including: bowling, hunting, fishing, spending time up north, and following the Packers and Brewers. After retiring, he shared his talent for woodworking by making many beautiful pieces for family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife, Carol and their six children: James (special friend Michelle); Linda (Tom) Van Wyk; Gary (Dorie); Curt (Kathryn); Chris (special friend Amy); and Richard (Penney); 12 grandchildren: Katrina; Celine and Raene; Rachel, Evan and Faith; Brandon, Trevor, Dustin, and Hannah; Nicholas and Collin; one great-grandchild, Ambrielle, with two more on the way; step-grandchildren: Tim (Lisa) and Peter Van Wyk; and step-great-grandchildren Petey and Niki Van Wyk; also Mia Kay Fuller, sister to Celine and Raene. He is further survived by his sisters: Marion Smits and Rosalie Schramm; brothers: Bernard (Jean) and Kenneth (Paula); Carol's family: Sr. Mary Lee Spielbauer, Norman (Mary), Marvin (Ruth), Leroy (Sandy), sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen and Jackie Spielbauer. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother sister-in-law, Norbert (Margaret); sisters and brothers-in-law: Virginia (Donald) Flanagan; Gene Schramm; Harold Maas; and James Smits; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Edgar, Robert, Donald and Richard (Esther).
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at St. John Catholic Church in Menasha with Father Paul Paider officiating. Visitation will be held at church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to thank Lisa Gunderson and the nurses at Theda Care Physicians for their wonderful care of Jim over the years. Also, thanks to the staff at Fox River for their kindness and compassion.
I must thank my family for all the time spent with their Dad this past year so he could remain at home as long as he did. I could not have done it without your help and support. I love you. Mom
