Maranda Sykes, 96, of Appleton, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013. She was born on March 11, 1916 in Wittenberg, WI; daughter of the late Edward and Lillian (Breaker) Foth.
Coming to the Appleton area in 1936, she worked for several years at the Zwicker Knitting Mill and married Warren Sykes on September 2, 1939. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1994.
Survivors include a son, Allen (Joyce) Sykes, New London, WI, and two daughters, Karen Sykes, Cochabamba, Bolivia, and Patricia (Carl) Orlando, Crivitz, WI; four grandchildren, Lisa (Tom) Turner, Grand Haven, MI, Lowell (Kathy) Sykes, Paducah, KY, Michael (Bonnie) Orlando, Crivitz, WI and Michelle Orlando, Green Bay, WI, and three great grandchildren.
She is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Gehrke, Appleton, Eleanor (Elmer) Nueske, Bowler, WI, Norma Jean (Conrad) Naef, Great Falls, MT; two brothers, Lyle (Joan) Foth, Polar, WI, Kenneth (Joanne) Foth, Little Chute, WI; sister-in-law, Ruth Sykes, Black Creek, WI; brother-in-law, Elmer Marx, Appleton and many nieces and nephews.
Maranda was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters, Lauretta (Harry) Kassube, Marjorie (Alvin) Krisher, Vivian Marx; four brothers, Harvey (Clara) Foth, Howard (Doris) Foth, Eugene (Pearl) Foth and Allen Foth, and a brother-in-law, Burton Sykes.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 12:00 Noon at Valley Funeral Home, Appleton with Rob Eberhardt and Eric Nueske officiating. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
