Robert Gay(1933 - 2013)

Dr. Robert Lewis Gay "Doc"

Age 79, of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton. He was born on July 19, 1933 in Marlinton, West Virginia, son of the late Lewis and Marguerite (Moore) Gay. Bob graduated from Marlinton High School in 1951. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division as a Paratrooper from 1953-1955. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. In 1964, he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Ohio State University. As a young man Bob was a Professional Purebred Showman, and in 1950 he placed 2nd nationally at the National 4-H Sheep Shearing Competition. He was also given the 10 year 4-H Achievement Award. For a short time, he also worked as a West Virginia Coal Miner. Bob was an Animal Science Teacher and Advisor at West Virginia University, then working in Uganda with the East African Project, at the Arapia Agricultural College in Soroti, Uganda. Bob practiced Veterinary Medicine from 1968 until 2013 starting his practice in Caldwell, Ohio, then Birnamwood, Wisconsin, Heritage Animal Hospital in Hortonville, Great Lakes Veterinary Clinic, Neenah and finally Equine Health Management in Greenville.

He is survived by his sons: Kevin (Kathi) Gay, Greenville; Randy (Angela) Gay, Hortonville; eight grandchildren: Wesley Gay, Joshua Gay, Zachary Gay, Karli Gay, Aaron Brimmer, Lucas Brimmer, Lauren Gay and Lindsey Mathewson; a brother Jack (Eleanore) Gay, Jeffersonville, Indiana. He is further survived by two nephews: Russell and Travis Gay and their families, also his long time friend Helen other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Wesley Moore Gay.

A celebration of Bob's life will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 5 p.m. at the Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville with Mark Peters officiating. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cherry Meadows Hospice and the Outagamie County 4-H.
