Robert S. Meyer "Bob"
Robert Meyer, 90, of Appleton, died on Monday, January 27, 2014, at his home of forty-five years. Bob was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, October 23, 1923, the son of Robert Emil Meyer and Rose Sponsel Meyer. While at Elgin Academy in Elgin, IL a classmate introduced Bob to her cousin, Virginia (Lee), the love of his life. They married in 1943 and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on November 20, 2013.
Bob was a respected executive in the paper industry, and a 61-year member of Waverly Lodge #51 in Appleton, and the Shrine in Green Bay. At the beginning of his retirement years, Bob was a dedicated hospice volunteer as well as assisting with the transport of children from the Fox Valley down to the Shrine Hospital in Milwaukee. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Appleton.
He loved fishing and spent many happy hours angling with his best friend and brother-in-law Philip Grafe. He taught all his children to play baseball, read every historical marker in every state he drove through, and watched football games on Sundays with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Lee; three daughters: Sherry (Michael) Herring; Robin (John) Pioch; and Nancy Meyer; a son, Richard (Joanne); 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
In keeping with Bob's wishes, no funeral services will be held.
