Quimby, Velda M.
Velda (Ferg) Quimby, age 91, was called to her heavenly home on July 9, 2013. She was born June 18, 1922 in Manawa, WI to Otto and Bertha (Steinbach) Ferg. In 1927 the Ferg family moved to the homestead farm in Little Wolf Township.
Velda received her education at Green Valley School, St. Paul's parochial, and Little Wolf High School in Manawa. She graduated as an RN from the Ev. Deaconess Hospital in Milwaukee and interned at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She worked at Borchart Clinic in New London before marriage.
Velda and Paul met in high school and were married October 22, 1944 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Manawa. They settled on the Ferg farm and attended St. Mark's Church in Symco. They farmed until 1966 when they sold the farm and moved to Appleton.
For 45 years Velda and Paul lived in Appleton - going to church and Bible study, enjoying square and round dancing, and traveling. They traveled through the 50 states, most of the provinces of Canada, took a tour to the Holy Land, Greece, and Egypt. Velda greatly enjoyed genealogy, publishing her records of the family history and faithfully keeping them current from year to year.
Velda is survived by her children, Janet Welch of Kaukauna, Jerald (Kathy) Quimby of Iola, and Jill (Marvin) Levine of Appleton; grandsons, Timothy Welch, Jonathan and Daniel Quimby; great grandchildren, Kaylee Platten, Paige and Zoe Welch and Max Quimby. She is further survived by sister in law, Bette Ferg, along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, sister Linda Lane, brother Franklin Ferg, son in law Richard Welch, and grandson Jeremy Welch.
In John 3:3, Jesus tells us "I assure you, unless you are born again, you can never see the Kingdom of God." Because of what Jesus did for her, Velda was able to say "Yes, we have gone on ahead - since we are born-again believers. God be with you 'til we meet again."
A Memorial Service will be held at Valley Funeral Home, Appleton on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Huff officiating. Visitation will start one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to:

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Renaissance Assisted Living for their care, compassion and friendship. Thank you also to Theda Care Hospice who kept her comfortable through her final journey with pancreatic cancer. Finally, the family thanks friends for their thoughtful gestures through visits, cards and prayers. It was most appreciated.
