Virginia "Ginny" Siegrist
Virgina "Ginny" M. Siegrist, age 95 of Hortonville, died on Monday morning, February 10, 2014, at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca.
Ginny was born on December 29, 1918, in the Town of Charleston, Chilton, Wisconsin, daughter of Oscar and Nellie (Weeks) Miller. On April 11, 1942, Ginny was united in marriage to "the love of her life" Donald A. Siegrist. After they married, Ginny and Don moved to Manitowoc and later moved to Appleton. In 1952 they moved to Hortonville. The two shared 66 years of marriage until Donald's death in 2008.
Ginny was a former member of the Community Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, played piano for the children's choir, was head of the oyster and chili supper, and was also Ladies Aid President for four years. Several years before his death, Don and Ginny joined Faith Community United Methodist Church in Greenville. There Ginny was an active participant in Sunday School and Bible class, belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary, made hospital and sick calls, served as an usher, and was a member of the quilting club. She also volunteered her time knitting and crocheting items, baking and making candy for the Fall Harvest Day. She was a member of Creative Caring Hearts, knitting mittens, caps, and booties for babies in need. Ginny was also active in the Hortonville Music Boosters, the Outagamie County 4-H chapter for fifteen years, and a past president of the Hortonville Elementary School PTA. Ginny was an excellent baker, cook, and candy maker. She loved music. She played the piano and organ and loved to sing. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting, as well as fishing and camping. Ginny will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her children: Don Jr. (Carol) Siegrist, Cecil, WI, and Virginia Kay (Barrie) Lutze, Waupaca; two grandsons: Troy Schlicting, Aurora, Colorado and Aaron Lutze, Portland, Oregon; four great grandchildren: Ryan, Hayden, and McKenna Schlicting and Teegan Lutze; and brother, Leo (Mildred) Miller, Chilton. Virginia is further survived by her brother-in-law, Calvin (Judy) Siegrist, Green Bay as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; a son, Terry; and brothers, John, Clayton, and Harvey Miller.
Funeral services for Virginia will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at Faith Community United Methodist Church, N1966 Julius Road, Greenville, with Pastor Don Olm officiating. Family and friends may call at Borchardt and Moder Funeral Home, Hortonville on Friday evening, February 21, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again directly at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
