Wolfmeyer, Willard I.
Willard I. Wolfmeyer, 88, of Shawano, passed away Sunday morning, February 24, 2013 at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Willard was born August 21, 1924 in Green Bay, Wis. a son of the late Elmer and Ella (Korb) Wolfmeyer.
Willard attended the Brillion Schools, graduating from Brillion High School in 1942. Following school he entered the University of Wisconsin
-Madison. His education was temporarily interrupted by the draft. Willard served in the United States Army
during World War II
. While in the Army, Willard was able to attend the University of Montana and the University of Utah. Upon returning from the service, Willard returned to UW-Madison, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Business. On June 21, 1952, he was united in marriage to the former Naomi Redig at the Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Rantoul, Calumet County, Wis. Following their marriage, the couple lived briefly in Iron Mountain, Mich. They then moved to Pewaukee for a time, eventually settling in Shawano. Willard had been employed with the Oliver Tractor Co. as a sales rep for over 40 years, retiring in 1988. Willard had won numerous sales awards with the Oliver Co., allowing he and his wife, Naomi, to travel extensively during his career. He is a member of Peace United Church of Christ, where he had held numerous positions. Willard is also a member of Shawano American Legion Post #117, The Shawano D A V and the 40 et 8. He was also a past member of the Shawano Kiwanis Club.
His wife, Naomi, preceded him in death on December 20, 2006.
Willard enjoyed a good round of golf. He took great pride in the upkeep and appearance of his home and yard.
Willard is survived by his sons, Steven Wolfmeyer of Shawano; David (Kim) Wolfmeyer of Shawano and Kevin (Karen) Wolfmeyer of New Berlin. His grandchildren, Jennifer, Nicholas, Meghan, Eric (Emily Pouwels) Wolfmeyer; John and Marie (Vince Johnson) Wolfmeyer; one great-grandson, Owen, numerous Nieces, nephews and friends survive him.
He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Wilma Kane of Whitelaw, Wis. Also two infant brothers, Clinton and Elmer Jr.
Funeral services for Williard I. Wolfmeyer will be held on Friday, March 8, at 11 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, Shawano. Pastor Marty Black will officiate. Entombment will be in the Highland Memorial Park, Appleton, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Relatives and friends may call at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service on Thursday, March 7, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the hour of Service. Shawano American Legion Post #117 will conduct Military Honors for Willard at the church.
