Mikell Stiebs Obituary

Stiebs , Mikell "Mike" C.

Mikell Carl Stiebs, age 72, of Appleton, beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away surrounded by his three beautiful daughters on Thursday, October 22, 2015 after a brief illness.

Mike was born on November 16, 1942 in New London to the late Carl and Dorothy (Poehlman) Stiebs. In a pristine, peaceful valley of Waupaca County, Mike grew up on a progressive dairy farm. The tranquil woods, erratic glacial rocks and the Blake Brook that flowed through the land were his playground. He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and listening to sports on his radio while tending to the farm.

Mike attended primary school in a one-room country schoolhouse and graduated from Manawa High School in 1960. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

For his entire professional life Mike worked as a service and operations manager for commercial truck leasing companies. For the past eleven years, he was the WI/MN regional manager at McCoy Nationalease Inc.

Mike will be remembered for his thirst of knowledge, voracious reading, industriousness, passionate horticulturist, Badger and Packer fan, political enthusiast and an avid traveler journeying to Singapore, Thailand, Spain, Portugal and Canada to name a few.

Inspiring and unforgettable to his children and grandchildren was Mike's pride and devotion to faith, family and country; his gentle and kind nature; enthusiasm to live life to the fullest; constant positive outlook and to be a life-long learner and adventurer.

He is survived by his three loving daughters, who are the light of his life, Tami (Dennis) Burton of Appleton and her children, Alexander and Courtney Oenes and stepchildren, Justin and Aaron Burton; Julianna (Terry) Otremba of Minneapolis, MN and their daughter, Addison Sophia; Kristina (Trent) Munyer of Coeur d' Alene, ID and their daughters, Ava and Zara. Mike is further survived by his dear sister, Kathy Drews of Larsen and her children, Matthew Drews of Milwaukee and Jennifer Drews (Mike) Anklam of New London and her son, Konnor Kuppernus; niece, Janice (Ernie) Flatoff of Plover and their children, Kim Nagorski and Caitlin Flatoff; niece, Sue (Mike) Zarecki of Junction City and their children, Jessica and Megan Zarecki.

Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents; Carl and Jessica (Crowner) Poehlman and Edward and Clara (Miller) Stiebs; his parents Carl and Dorothy (Poehlman) Stiebs; his older sister, Nancy Stiebs; his cousin, Clyde Frye; brother-in-law, Bill Drews and niece, Stephanie Drews.

A funeral service for Mike will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 10:00 am at SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS LUTHERAN CHURCH, N1615 Meadowview Drive, Greenville. A time of visitation will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street starting at 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Tuesday at church starting at 9:00 am until the time of the funeral service with Rev. Nate Reichle officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Mike would appreciate that you do an unsolicited act of kindness like opening the door for a stranger, helping to put someone's coat on, lending a dime to one in need or one can donate to the Republican Party at www.GOP.com.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Froedert Memorial Lutheran Hospital and Cherry Meadows Hospice for all the wonderful care given to Mike as well as the support given to their family during those most difficult times. His daughters would especially like to thank Kimberly Nurnberg, RN and the Froedert CV ICU staff for all their attentiveness and compassionate care.

Dad, we love you and we will miss you dearly. Thank you for being our greatest cheerleader.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

I have not seen Mike in a few years but remember him fondly. We had many wonderful conversations about all of you. His eyes would twinkle as he discussed each of you and your accomplishments. Praying for you that you will be comforted as you grieve the loss of your dad and grandfather.
