Patricia Strick Obituary

Patricia Anne Strick of Menasha, age 65, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born on July 4, 1946 in Neenah, daughter of the late Wilbur and Margaret (Kolgen) Cottrell. Patricia was employed by the Appleton Area School District as a para-professional in special education at Badger and Foster Elementary Schools. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Parish.

She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Robert; her children: Rob Jenkel, Appleton; Amy (Corey) Hartjes-Zak, Appleton; step-children: Deborah Strick-Lay, Eau Claire, Michael (Debbie) Strick, Appleton, Brian Strick, Colorado; grandchildren: Laynee Mae Zak, Ethan and Emma Strick; sister, Sandra Cottrell (Bill Mattern), Menasha; brother, Jeffrey (Rosemary) Cottrell, Vernon, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and former spouses: Robert Jenkel and Norman Hartjes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Cottrell and step-daughter-in-law, Christi Strick.

Patty lived a full life filled with joy provided by her children and especially her granddaughter Laynee Mae. Unfortunately she struggled with Crohns for over 30 years and on Friday, December 2, she was admitted to St Elizabeth Hospital with her very recent diagnosis of leukemia. The good Lord asked her to come home on Sunday morning to be with her Mom and Dad. Her family was able to be with her and share their most precious moments and say their own special good byes. She will now be the angel in heaven that she was on earth to her beloved daughter Amy and the guardian angel for her son, Rob. She loved her children and they will miss her dearly. Her family and friends meant the world to her.

Her life was filled with Doty Park, be it on the courts playing tennis, feeding the ducks with her Dad or waiting for her cardinals to brighten her day. She loved working with flowers in her garden with her beloved dog Bailey at her side.

Patty especially enjoyed having pizzas, sitting on the floor with her Mom and Dad and Sandra and Jeff, after their late night jaunts around town. Her husband Bob was introduced to this family tradition when they met and later married.

She was especially thankful for the use of her brother Jeff's stick shift Corvette after he taught her to do the "floor shifting thing".

Sandra is going to miss the long conversations that she had with Patty on the phone where they talked about everything from soup to nuts.

Bob is going to miss everything about Patty and their life together. It was just too short. He loved her very much.

A celebration of Patty's life will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at MENASHA'S Westgor Funeral Home (1140 Appleton Road), with Father Don Zuleger officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a fund is being established.

Patty's husband Bob and her children Amy and Rob would like to give SPECIAL THANKS to Dr Sodhi and Dr Goggins and the St Elizabeth Hospital's fourth floor Oncology staff, Cheryl and Bob and the support staff who gave Patty their love and attention.

I really appreciate the expressions of sympathy from all of her friends and I will treasure these thoughts always. Pattie was a very special person and I will miss here immensely. We did everything together and not a day goes by when she is not in my thoughts. Pattie will be with me every day, wherever I go, and along side me in every thing I do. How one is able to handle this is far beyond me but I know that your thoughts and prayers will sustain me.

Patti was always telling me about the kids she taught at school and her own family, each comes with the ups and downs that life brings us all. They had lots of tumbling rocks in their lives, as well as her own, but she analized and viewed the best way to handle each individual with their special needs. She always had a smile on her face and her chin held high for them to see each day. Even though she has left our lives physically, her pain and suffering is now off her shoulders. Good thoughts will remain with us happily forever.

I only met this fine lady one time but I really enjoyed our visit together. She made me feel so at ease. Alan had told me she was a sweetheart and she definitely was. She, Deb and I went shopping while Bob and Alan worked on Alan's taxes and we had a ball!! She will be greatly missed by all.

Pat was a good friend of my mom. After my Mom (Karen) passed away, I still remember Pat coming to my baby shower & talking & catching up with her & asking about Rob & Amy. I knew Pat from little on. I am so sorry I cannot attend the funeral. She was a very special person & will be missed by many.

Amy, I am so sorry to read about your Mom. You have many good memories of her. We at Badger School appreciated her warm personality and big smile. She will be missed by many people. Your Mom kept me informed about you for many years after you left my first grade classroom. You were very special to her. She always enjoyed having a conversation and you and Rob would usually be part of it.

Bob, even though we have not seen each other in years, you are in my prayer today for you loss. I know it's hard to console one at this time, but with time it helps ... as I lost my wife of 60 years just 3 years ago and was married just 4 days ago in Florida.

Patty was a very special friend and co-worker to me. We worked together for almost 15 years at Badger School. The 4th of July never went by without me thinking of her and her special birthday of the 4th. Patty was quite a fire cracker. She truly loved her children and grand child. May you somehow be comforted. Patty, enjoy your new home in heaven with the rest of the angels and watch over us from above. Friends forever, Patty Bosin

Rob and Amy my prayers and heavy heart go out to you at this time. Your mom, as you know, was one in a million. She loved to share your lives with me and keep me updated on you two. I think back to when I used to babysit for you, Rob back when we were neighbors and how our paths brought us together at Badger. I was fortunate enough to teach Amy, who is a wonderful soul with a great smile. You both carry her smile and good will with you. You two are the best part of her. I am so sorry for your loss and the whole families loss. Pat was a special angel on earth.
