Richard Holcomb Obituary

Holcomb, Richard L.

Richard L. Holcomb, 84 of Appleton, died Monday July 20, 2015 at Appleton Medical Center. Richard was born in Appleton, July 16, 1931, son of the late Rei and Loretta (Pauli) Holcomb. Richard married Katherine Kuba on July 9, 1955.

Richard served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked most of his life as a carpenter. Besides building the house that he and Kathy lived in, Richard helped to build many houses in Appleton. Even after he "officially" retired, Richard was always there to lend a hand and help with any building project he could. Richard enjoyed his daily workouts at the "old man's club", when he was able. He liked to watch old movies, play sheephead, work in his flower garden; he always kept fresh flowers in the house for Kathy. When Richard did relax, he enjoyed sitting on his patio, bird watching.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Kathy; his six children, son, Gary (Lynn), Neenah; five daughters, Gail Barten, Menasha, Terri Aman, Appleton, Lisa (Timothy) Helm, Centerville, OH; Kim (Kevin) Lysne, Fremont, and Kerry Holcomb, Appleton; 14 Grandchildren, Carly, Cory (Katie), Courtney, Matt, Emily, Rachel, Allison, Erik, Tyler, Katie, Karah, Alex, Anna, and Cole; two Great-Grandchildren, Macy and Lauren, and a third due in December. Richard is further survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved dog, Mindy. He was further preceded in death by his infant son, Joseph; two brothers, Stanley, and Darrell; and his sister, Edyth.

Funeral service for Richard will be 5:30 PM on Friday July 24, 2015 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home beginning at 3:30 PM until the hour of service. Full military honors will follow.

To all the Holcomb family, You are in my thoughts as you grieve the loss of your wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. It was always a pleasure to see Richard as he battled his health over the last year or so. I will always remember him calling me Tom. At least until he got it right and called me Tim. He is in a good place, Rest in peace Richard.

Losing your father leaves an emptiness in your heart that he hopes will be filled once again with the loving memories of who he was, what he instilled in you as his children and the famity times you shared. He will be missed but with you always. He was a lucky man with a wonderfully full life with his life partner for 60 years. I'll be celebrating that along with my prayers for the family. Until we see him again in the glorious Kingdom in heaven.
