Kenneth Foster Obituary

Foster, Kenneth C.

Kenneth C. Foster, Winneconne, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 15th, 2016 of natural causes at his home. He was born November 30, 1931 in Neenah, Wisconsin - the son of Harry and Isabell Foster. Ken proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. In 1957 he was hired by the Neenah Police Department where he served for 30 years, retiring as Captain.

On May 4, 1957 Ken married Rita (Hanegraaf) Sorenson. Ken lovingly adopted Rita's four boys Claude, Mike, Jeff and Kevin. Together they added three more children, Jill, Steve and Dan. The family resided in Neenah until 1987, when they built their retirement home on Lake Winneconne.

Ken thoroughly enjoyed his life after retirement. His many hobbies included hunting, fishing, boating and spending time with friends & family both in Wisconsin & Florida, where they spent their winters. Ken also contributed decades of service at Presto Products, Inc., running the "Boat House" in Winneconne where many would congregate to conduct business, celebrate and unwind. Ken also enjoyed helping out at one of his favorite establishments - the Fin 'n Feather, where he was Captain of their Showboat excursion boat. Ken had a way of lighting up a room, whether it was full of friends or strangers. If you had the pleasure of meeting him, you would not soon forget it. If you knew "Kenny," you were a lucky person. He would find you the most beautiful sea glass from the ocean or the best happy hour in town. He knew how to fix a fishing pole that his grandchild would trash or how to talk his granddaughter's out of dating the wrong guy!

Ken was preceded in death by his beloved wife Rita. Ken is survived by his sister Jackie Spilski and her family, his children, Claude (Chris) Foster, Mike (Katie) Foster, Jeff (special friend Debbie) Foster, Kevin (Peggy) Foster, Jill (Dave) Meyer, Steve (Karen) Foster and Dan (Amy) Foster. Kenny also had a very special lady in his life; Elaine Coe. She lit up his everyday life, spending time with him fishing, and dancing the night away in Florida. Kenny's children and grandchildren truly appreciated the time she took to add memories to his life and ours. Ken would have loved to give another huge "thank you" to his neighbors Dave & Gretchyn Weisgerber for the many home cooked meals and friendship.

He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Jeremy, Josh, Rachel, Heidi, Jason, Eric, Ryan, Jessica, Andy, Keith, Riley, Tess, Brooke and Blake, as well as nine great-grandchildren.

Ken was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Parish, Winneconne, WI. Ken's family would like to thank the members of the church for their support and prayers.

Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 PM Monday, June 20, 2016 at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 210 Pleasant Drive, Winneconne, WI at Noon. A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service.

In honor of Ken's late wife Rita, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Alzheimer's Association.

Dear Foster's, I'm so sorry about your Dad's (and Grandpa's) passing. As a youngster I was intimidated by Uncle Ken he had such great presence. A few years back when I talked with him at Camp Onaway and learned about his passion, finding sea stones and making jewelry with them, I realized he was also a kind, thoughtful man! The necklace I bought from Uncle Ken is beautiful; I will think of him whenever I wear it.
