Bernice F. Janssen, Little Chute, age 86, died Tuesday October 15, 2013. She was born in Miladore on January 29, 1927 to the late August and Frances (Markee) Mancl. Bernice married Roman "Romy" Janssen on July 9, 1949 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2006. Together, they raised twelve children. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.
Bernice lived a humble, faithful life. She always put others first and was the rock of our family.
Bernice is survived by her sons: Greg (Nancy), Gerry (Joni), Jim (Nancy) and Marty (Harriette), all of Little Chute; Bill of Freedom; and Doug (Deb) of Tigerton; five daughters: Mary (Dave) Vande Hey, Peg (Al) Van Asten, Kris (Bruce) Evers, Ellen (Steve) Reynebeau, all of Little Chute; and Laurie Verhagen of Combined Locks; daughter-in-law, Alice of Kaukauna; 47 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; sister Germaine Doerfler; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Donna and Earline Mancl, Vincent (Pat) Baum, Sue Wilson, Sylvia (Ted) Kuether, Rosemary West, Don, Gerrit (Marge), Kenneth (Carol), Peter, Paul (Audrey) and Joseph (Jane) Janssen. As Romy and Bernice's legacy continues to grow, she was eagerly anticipating the birth of 6 more great grandchildren and her first great great grandchild. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, along with her 6:45 a.m. Mass friends and a group she lovingly called her "Widow Ladies".
In addition to her parents and husband Romy, Bernice was preceded in death by her son, Mike; son-in-law, Walt Audette; granddaughter Rebecca Janssen; great grand daughter Gabriella Engle; father and mother-in-law Peter and Martha Janssen; siblings: Robert and John Mancl, Beulah Baum, Joan (Chet) Meiers, Mabel (Elmer) Wilson and Mary Louise (Vincent) Simon; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Henry Doerfler, Marianne (Larry) Schnabl, Dave West, Lester, Orville, Agnes, Marlene, Bernice and Doris Janssen.
Visitation will be held Monday October 21, 2013 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute) beginning at 2:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Ronald Belitz will officiate. Committal St. John Cemetery. To sign the guest book, please visit oconnellfh.com.
