Betty Ann Christenson, age 82 of Suring (Town of Breed) passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband by her side on Friday, January 31, 2014. Betty was born in the Town of Breed on August 19, 1931 to the late Stefan and Justyna (Kuzemka) Piso. She grew up in the Town of Breed where she met her husband, LeRoy "Charlie" Christenson. Betty married Charlie on August 23, 1952 in the Town of Breed and later moved to Neenah in 1957 to raise their family. Betty's passion was her Ukrainian heritage and her beloved Ukrainian eggs. It's because of this passion that she was given the nickname "Egg Lady". She was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship as a Master Artist by the National Endowment for the Arts in 1996. She was then invited by the Smithsonian Institute to represent Wisconsin and her Ukrainian Art at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC in 1998. Betty's legacy lives on in the National Archives in Washington DC for future generations to enjoy.
Betty is survived by her husband, LeRoy "Charlie" of Suring; 6 children, Cindy (Don) Long-Schultz of Appleton, Mark Christenson of Suring, Steve (Lynn) Christenson of Neenah, Jeff (Ann) Christenson of Neenah, Phillip (Shawn) Christenson of Seymour and Sarah (Robert Will) Christenson of Neenah; 8 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jessica, Charlie, Dana, Angela (Brian), Emily, Trevor and Andrew; 3 siblings, twin sister, JoAnn (Jerry) Puhl of Appleton, Connie (Frank) Dambowy of Minnesota and Nicky (Susie Mueller) Piso of Milwaukee. Betty is further survived by a special sister in law, Hilda (John) Piso, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her 5 siblings, Howard Piso, Ken Piso, Mary Sandberg, Anne Wolke and John Piso.
Visitation will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Suring on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 9 AM until the memorial service at 11 AM with Sister Marla Clercx officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family wishes to personally thank the caregivers Star, Sandy, Jenny and Peggy who took such wonderful care of Betty. They would also like to thank Jill, Ashley, and ResCare.
