Charles "Chuck" Ross
Charles E. "Chuck" Ross, age 74, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Cherry Meadows Hospice. Chuck was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, on September 20, 1939, son of the late Elmer and Ethel (Reese) Ross. He graduated from Stevens Point High School and from the University of Wisconsin--Stevens Point, where he met his future bride. On December 28, 1963, he married Suzanne Christine Holtan. Chuck served in the U.S. Army as a Russian interpreter, completed his MBA at the University of Missouri, and was employed by Aid Association for Lutherans, now Thrivent Financial, for 35 years, during which he held numerous management positions.
An active member of Faith Lutheran church, Chuck sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, served as an elder, and especially enjoyed participating in Bible studies. More recently, he enjoyed volunteering at the Bethesda Thrift Shop. Chuck was an avid card player his entire life, enjoying bridge, rummy, and hand and foot. He was also an avid Packers, Badgers, and Cubs fan, and enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles, and puzzles. In earlier years he enjoyed biking, cross-country skiing, canoeing, and tent camping with his family.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Suzanne Ross; his brother: David (Nadine) Ross; sisters-in-law: Nancy Ross and Gloria Foley; brothers-in-law: Bob Holtan, Carl Sauer; Bill Lorenz; daughter: Deborah (Brian) Driscoll; sons: Erik (Cindy) and David (Tiffanie); grand-daughters: Angela, Danielle, Payton, and Kennedy Ross; grand-sons: Matthew Ross, Devin and Ethan Driscoll. Further survived by his loving cousins Renata, Marge and Paul, numerous loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his brother John; Suzanne's parents Oscar and Florence Holtan; sisters-in-law: Jean Haney, Eileen Sauer, and Marilyn Peters; brothers-in-law: Don Peters and John Foley.
Memorial services for Chuck will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 E. Glendale Avenue, Appleton, with Pastor Daniel Thews officiating. The visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. The urnment will be in Plover Village Cemetery, Plover, Wisconsin, at a later date . In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name. Chuck's family would like to extend a sincere thank you and heartfelt appreciation to his compassionate hospice care givers at home and at Cherry Meadows; and for the spiritual care provided by the staff of Faith Lutheran Church; and for the medical care by his many physicians and staff, especially Dr. Jack Anderson and Dr. Robert Wilson, and Dr. John Swanson and his palliative care team.
