Daniel G. Kaniess, age 56, of St. Paul was an artist and musician. Surrounded by his family and victorious over cancer, Daniel began his eternal walk with the Lord on April 14, 2012. Born November 9, 1955, in Appleton, WI, to Gerhard and Ruth Kaniess. Daniel graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School and then the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He settled in the Twin Cities and began a successful career as an artist. He was an active member of St Mathew's Lutheran, St John's Lutheran, St James Lutheran, Emanuel Lutheran and Crown of Life Lutheran Churches over his years, while also pursuing his art and music. Daniel's works can be viewed at madebyhuman.com. Daniel was a founding member of the band 2i, a fixture of the Twin Cities music community that recorded and toured in the 80s. He also formed BLACKi, a noise improvisational group of countless members participating over the last few decades and was Poet1955. He was performing up until November 2011. Daniel was more than happily married to the love of his life, Sharon Saar. Married in 1983, they lived in St. Paul raising their family. Daniel Kaniess is survived by his wife, Sharon Kaniess; son, Kab Kaniess; Daughter Kai and son-in-law Brady Grohs; his parents, Gerhard and Ruth Kaniess; and brother, James Kaniess. He will be missed as a son, husband, father, role model, and friend. Funeral Service 6 PM Thursday, April 19th at CROWN OF LIFE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 115 Crusader Avenue, WSP. Visitation 4-8 PM Wednesday and 1 hour prior to the service ALL at church. Interment Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crown of Life Lutheran School Scholarship Fund.
